Greens Norton, Bradden and Duncote Fifty Plus Group

The Group, which has been in existence since 1983, exists to promote recreational and educational activities for its members and to liaise with other Village Groups in promoting a community spirit and environment for all the villagers.

Membership of the group is open to residents over the age of 50, new members being introduced by an existing member. Details of activities are posted on the Village Notice Board.

F.R.O.G.S
As you read this I hope all FROGS are enjoying a well earned rest after a busy year of fund raising. The new building is getting bigger daily and our target of £20,000 to equip the Library and ICT Suite is getting nearer. By mid June we have reached £15,000. This was helped along by our enormously successful Spring Fair which raised just over £4,000. Everyone who came along thoroughly enjoyed the day - and spent lots of money! Many thanks to everyone in Greens Norton and surrounding areas for continually supporting us. Hopefully by September we will be in a position to hand over a large proportion of the required funds to the school and our children will benefit from everyone's hard work and generosity.
Mothers Union
The Mothers Union was founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner, a mother and grandmother and the wife of a clergyman.

The object was for mothers to join together to care for and protect all children and support family life.

We meet on the second Wednesday on each month at 2.15 pm at various venues and any ladies are welcome to join us.

For further information, contact Wyn Young on 358059.
Recreational Hall Fund
The Committee has not met for some time now but activity is going on in the background to obtain funding for the proposed new Community Centre to be built on the existing playing field on Towcester Road.

Watch this space updates.

Womens Institute
Greens Norton WI meets on the second Thursday of the month in the Village Hall, High Street at 8pm. and is always pleased to see any visitors or new members.

We are not just 'Jam and Jerusalem' in fact, far from it. Do feel free to come along and join us. Watch the village Notice Board for meeting details.

GREENS NORTON VILLAGE HALL
The Village Hall was originally the Village Church of England School built in 1874. It remained in use as the only school, then just as an Infants School right up to 1972 w hen the new Greens Norton School took all the pupils from 4-11.

Over the years many functions were held in the buildings even when it was still a school, such as dances, meetings, whist drives etc. In 1973 the Benham Trust acquired the property and it was leased to the village for a peppercorn rent. It became a registered charity and was managed according to the Trust Deed dated 10th. January 1973. by a committee who became Trustees of the Charity. The Parish Council being the Custodian Trustee.
On the 4th of July 1997, the Benham Trust gave the property to the village and it was vested in the Official Custodian for Charities on the 15th. April, 1998.

The buildings are currently used regularly by fifteen village groups whose ages range from two to eighty-plus. There are also many one off bookings for parties and other functions. Both short mat bowls and table-tennis are played in the main hall.
Of course the hall is not suitable for some activities but steps are being taken to make it more acceptable and the current users are happy with most of the facilities.

GREENS NORTON NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful Crime Prevention Initiatives ever. It is an Active Partnership with the Police.

Our present system was started in 1997.

Our structure is:
Main coordinator Isabel Lefever Tel. 350 084
Deputy coordinator: Pam Loft; Tel. 352 827
Thirty-One Road Contacts.

To continue to be a successful Watch, we need to have input from all the residents In the Village, and children as well.

Questions often asked are, when and to whom do I report an incident.

1) If an incident for a suspected Burglary is taking place or someone is trying to gain entrance to your property ( A Distraction Burglary), Contact the Police 999 immediately. Then please let Isabel or Pam know

2) If you are concerned about a problem with local nuisance, Contact our Beat Officer P.C. Ross Marriott on 300 300 and again please let Isabel or Pam know.

Report to the Police, Isabel or your Road Contact anything suspicious. This could be a stranger to the Village who is Acting in a Suspicious Manner or someone in a strange vehicle who is acting suspiciously. Vandalism needs to be reported.

We would rather know about these things, even if they do prove to be a false alarm.
